Working at Heights – Fall Protection

Fall accidents are among the most common types of workplace accidents. Particularly in the construction industry, there are significant gaps in knowledge regarding safety, safety equipment, and risk assessment when working at heights.

Did you know that falls to a lower level are one of the most common causes of fatal accidents in the construction industry? Or that insufficient training can result in penalty fees from the Swedish Work Environment Authority (Arbetsmiljöverket)? At AD Maskin, you get the knowledge you need, exactly when you need it.

What is included in the training?

The training requires no prior knowledge and does not include a practical internship. All participants study the material online, completely at their own pace and whenever it suits them best.

The goal is to provide a practical and useful understanding of the rules and regulations that apply when working at heights. The training covers:

  • Required equipment and how to handle it.
  • Requirements for different types of work at heights.
  • Preparation, risk assessment, anchoring, and securing.
  • Practical application of regulations.

When you pass the training test, you will immediately receive an initial certificate of completion via email. Your official plastic education certificate will be sent to you by post.

Fall Protection

Who needs to take an online fall protection course?

This course is aimed at anyone who needs to use fall protection equipment in their work, carries out work on roofs or at heights where there is a risk of falling, or uses fall protection equipment in a mobile elevating work platform (MEWP/Skylift). Supervisors should also possess knowledge of fall protection.

What does the law say about fall protection?

As of January 2015, performing professional work at heights without a certificate of competence in fall protection can result in penalty fees for employers. The rules apply from a height of two meters.

This means that professional work involving snow removal, roofing, solar panel installation, or other assignments carried out at a height of more than two meters requires competence in fall protection. As a private individual, you are not legally required to have this certification, but a simple online training course provides knowledge that can save lives.

When is fall protection training required?

The general rule is that all professional work at heights greater than two meters must be performed by professionals trained in fall protection. This also mandates the use of personal safety equipment, guard rails, or other fall protection measures.

Today, many believe that any rope or harness can serve as adequate personal protection. However, even at low heights, major injuries and serious accidents can occur if a person is left dangling after a fall.

Do you know what happens if a person is left hanging after a fall? If a person remains suspended in a harness, the blood supply in the veins can be cut off, risking oxygen deprivation to the heart and brain. This is a dangerous trap that can lead to severe injuries and a high risk of death.
